Pariññeyya Sutta

Antavagga Pariññeyyasutta Sāvatthinidānaṁ. “Pariññeyye ca, bhikkhave, dhamme desessāmi pariññañca pariññātāviñca puggalaṁ.

Originating in Sāvatthī: Disciples, I will teach you about phenomena that are to be fully known, the full knowing, and the person who has fully known.

Taṁ suṇātha.

Listen to this.

Katame ca, bhikkhave, pariññeyyā dhammā?

And what are the phenomena to be fully known?

Rūpaṁ, bhikkhave, pariññeyyo dhammo.

Form is a phenomenon to be fully known.

Vedanā …pe… saññā … saṅkhārā … viññāṇaṁ pariññeyyo dhammo.

Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are phenomena to be fully known.

Ime vuccanti, bhikkhave, pariññeyyā dhammā.

These are called phenomena to be fully known.

Katamā ca, bhikkhave, pariññā?

And what is full knowing?

Rāgakkhayo, dosakkhayo, mohakkhayo— ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, pariññā.

The destruction of greed, the destruction of hatred, the destruction of delusion: this is called full knowing.

Katamo ca, bhikkhave, pariññātāvī puggalo?

And who is the person who has fully known?

Arahātissa vacanīyaṁ.

It is said to be the Arahant.

Yvāyaṁ āyasmā evaṁnāmo evaṅgotto— ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, pariññātāvī puggalo”ti. Catutthaṁ.

The venerable one of such a name and such a clan: this is called the person who has fully known.
