Sabbasutta - The All
Sabbavagga Sabbasutta Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
Originating in Sāvatthī.
“Sabbaṁ vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi.
Disciples, I will teach you about the all.
Taṁ suṇātha.
Listen to this.
Kiñca, bhikkhave, sabbaṁ?
And what is the all?
Cakkhuñceva rūpā ca, sotañca saddā ca, ghānañca gandhā ca, jivhā ca rasā ca, kāyo ca phoṭṭhabbā ca, mano ca dhammā ca— idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, sabbaṁ.
The eye and forms, the ear and sounds, the nose and smells, the tongue and tastes, the body and touch, the mind and mental phenomena, this is called the all.
Yo, bhikkhave, evaṁ vadeyya: ‘ahametaṁ sabbaṁ paccakkhāya aññaṁ sabbaṁ paññāpessāmī’ti, tassa vācāvatthukamevassa; puṭṭho ca na sampāyeyya, uttariñca vighātaṁ āpajjeyya.
If anyone should say, ‘Having rejected this all, I will make known another all, that would be mere words for them. And if questioned, they would find no answer and would face frustration.
Taṁ kissa hetu?
And why is that?
Yathā taṁ, bhikkhave, avisayasmin”ti. Paṭhamaṁ.
Because it is beyond their domain.
