Saṁyutta Nikāya 45.7 1.

A Certain Disciple's Discourse at Sāvatthī.

Avijjāvagga Dutiyaaññatarabhikkhusutta Sāvatthinidānaṁ. Atha kho aññataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami …pe…

Then a certain disciple approached the Blessed One, and after approaching, he sat down to one side.

ekamantaṁ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaṁ etadavoca: “‘Rāgavinayo dosavinayo mohavinayo’ti, bhante, vuccati.

Sitting to one side, that disciple said to the Blessed One, Venerable sir, it is said, The removal of greed, the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion.

Kissa nu kho etaṁ, bhante, adhivacanaṁ: ‘rāgavinayo dosavinayo mohavinayo’”ti?

To what extent, venerable sir, is this said, the removal of greed, the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion?

“Nibbānadhātuyā kho etaṁ, bhikkhu, adhivacanaṁ: ‘rāgavinayo dosavinayo mohavinayo’ti.

It is a designation for the element of Nibbāna: the removal of greed, the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion.

Āsavānaṁ khayo tena vuccatī”ti.

It is called the destruction of the taints.

Evaṁ vutte, so bhikkhu bhagavantaṁ etadavoca: “‘amataṁ, amatan’ti, bhante, vuccati.

Having been spoken thus, that disciple said to the Blessed One, Venerable sir, it is said, the deathless, the deathless.

Katamaṁ nu kho, bhante, amataṁ, katamo amatagāmimaggo”ti?

What, venerable sir, is the deathless, and what is the path leading to the deathless?

“Yo kho, bhikkhu, rāgakkhayo dosakkhayo mohakkhayo— idaṁ vuccati amataṁ.

Disciple, the destruction of greed, the destruction of hatred, the destruction of delusion: this is called the deathless.

Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo amatagāmimaggo, seyyathidaṁ— sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhī”ti. Sattamaṁ.

This very Noble Eightfold Path is the path leading to the deathless, namely, right view to right concentration.
